Trezor.io/Start is the only official webpage you should ever use to set up a brand-new Trezor hardware wallet. It is simple, clean, and built by the Trezor company to make sure you start your journey the right way. No complicated menus, no confusing ads, just clear steps that take you from unboxing to a fully protected wallet in less than fifteen minutes. Whether you own a Trezor Model One, Safe 3, or Model T, this page recognizes your device automatically and guides you safely.
A Trezor hardware wallet is different because it never exposes your private keys to the internet. Your keys are born inside a special secure chip and never leave it. Even if you plug the device into an infected computer, your coins stay safe. Every time you sign a transaction, you check and approve it on the small screen of the Trezor itself. This simple habit has protected users from countless phishing attacks and malware since the first Trezor launched in 2014.
Open the box carefully. You will see the Trezor device wrapped in plastic, a USB cable, two recovery seed cards, a quick-start guide, and some Trezor stickers. Newer boxes have a holographic seal on the flap. The seal should be intact and shiny. If anything looks opened or damaged, do not use the device and contact support right away.
Take your computer or laptop and open a modern browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Brave. In the address bar type exactly trezor.io/start and press enter. Do not search for it on Google and do not click on any advertisement. The real page has a green padlock and the address stays trezor.io/start.
Plug the small end of the USB cable into your Trezor and the large end into your computer. The screen on the device will light up with a small lock or a fingerprint icon. On the website you will now see a big picture of your exact model. Click that picture. The page will then ask you to install Trezor Suite if you do not have it yet. Click the download button and choose the correct file for your operating system. Installation is fast and requires no restart.
Open Trezor Suite after installation. The program will find your device immediately. Choose Create new wallet. Your Trezor will show nine random words one after another. These words are your master backup. Write each word carefully on the paper card that came in the box. Use a pen, not a pencil. Count the words to be sure you have twelve or twenty depending on your model.
When you finish writing, the device will quiz you on a few random words. Touch the correct word on the screen each time. This proves you wrote everything correctly. After the last word, your wallet is created and fully backed up.
Now the website will ask you to set a PIN. The Trezor screen shows a grid of dots with numbers hidden underneath. Your computer shows an empty grid. Look at the numbers on the Trezor and click the matching dots on the computer screen. Choose a PIN that is easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. You will enter it twice to confirm. From now on, every time you plug in the Trezor you must enter this PIN using the same safe method.
When you want to send Bitcoin or any other coin, you prepare the payment in Trezor Suite. The software sends only the unsigned data to your Trezor. The device displays the exact amount and destination address on its own screen. Read it carefully. If everything matches what you expect, press the green checkmark. Only then does the secure chip add your digital signature. This way you can never be tricked into sending money to a hacker.
In Trezor Suite click the Receive tab for the coin you expect. A long address appears on your computer. Click Verify on device. The same address now shows on the Trezor screen. Compare the first six and last six characters. When they match exactly, you can copy the address and share it. Incoming payments appear in your balance within minutes.
By default Trezor Suite connects directly to public servers. If you want more privacy, open Settings and turn on Tor. All communication will now route through the Tor network and nobody can link your IP address to your wallet balance.
Trezor releases firmware updates a few times per year. When a new version is ready, Trezor Suite shows a friendly orange banner. Click Update now, follow the steps, and hold both buttons when instructed to enter bootloader mode. The process finishes in under two minutes. Always wait for the success message before unplugging.
Store your recovery seed card in a safe place away from your Trezor. Consider metal backup plates for fire and water protection. Never store the seed on your phone or computer. Never type it anywhere except back into a real Trezor during recovery. If anyone asks for your seed words, even someone pretending to be Trezor support, ignore them. Official staff will never request your seed.
